BEATEN but unbowed - Melvin Manhoef wants a third fight with Remy Bonjasky after declaring that their rivalry
"isn't finished".
The Dutch destroyer went down in a blaze of glory as he continually pressed the action and rocked Bonjasky
with a right hand before losing by third round knockout to his compatriot in an all-action superfight at K-1 Europe on
April 26.
It was the second time MMA star Manhoef has tasted defeat to Bonjasky after being outpointed by the two-time
K-1 champion six years ago.
But the 31-year-old is already hoping to turn the tables and is set to ask K-1 bosses for more kickboxing
fights to sharpen up with a view to having another crack at the flying knee specialist.
Speaking to Fightnewz.net in the dressing room after his loss at the Amsterdam ArenA, Manhoef said: "It
isn't finished with Remy.
"I hope I will meet him again. Of course I want a third fight, but now I've got no rhythm so it's real difficult
for me.
"I think if I've got more rhythm I can do pretty much better. I miss a little bit of routine. I've fought
four MMA fights and one K-1 fight in a year, he fights a K-1 fight every two months.
"But now I'm going to ask the K-1 to fight two, three times K-1 and then I have more rhythm so it's better
for me then to fight."
Manhoef was down five times against Bonjasky after being dropped by an assortment of kicks and knees and
finished with a broken tooth and swollen left elbow.
He was annoyed that he let his heart rule his head during the fight but glad he left the 20,000 crowd happy
after giving it every last ounce of effort.
"I did my job and I did it good. It's my fighting style and this is what I know, but it wasn't enough,"
said the former Cage Rage champion.
"I hurt him, he was stumbling twice. And then I couldn't finish it off because I wasn't focused.
"So it was real messed up, it wasn't nice that I couldn't finish him off. Because normally when I fight
and I have somebody hurt I finish it.
"This time it didn't work so I was frustrating myself. So I fought against myself also a little bit.
"I lost my tooth, I think it happened in the first round with the knee. But it doesn't matter, this is what
fighters do.
"I lost something but I'm going to get it back."
Manhoef is getting straight back into action too as he he fights Korean Kim Dae Won in the DREAM middleweight
Grand Prix this Sunday, May 11.
But he is adamant that he wants to face Bonjasky once more and insists he would be more disciplined
if they tussle again.
"I would stick to the gameplan next time, switch to the sides - movement," he added.
"I was pressing forward and fighting with aggression, too much toe-to-toe. That really broke me up."
