DON'T judge a book by its cover. Clyde Van Dams might look unathletic and he fought in a smock which covered his
portly upper body at Ring Rage V in Assen, Holland.
But the brother of former K-1 low kick specialist Lloyd Van Dams
showed family trademark grit and stamina to see off all comers and win the featured four-man heavyweight tournament.
Van
Dams recorded two points wins to take the title, beating Christiano Delgado in the decider after an opening win over Koos
Wessels.
Delgado had outscored Rik Van Soest to make the final.
Van Dams trains at the Chakuriki Gym in Amsterdam
with Peter Aerts, who booked his place in December's K-1 World Grand Prix Final with an extra round Final 16 defeat of
Ewerton Teixeira in Seoul earlier this month.
Delgado's Team It's Showtime stablemate Rico Verhoeven had to
travel the full distance to beat Groningen's game Maikel Duut in another hard-fought heavyweight tear-up.
Former
K-1 Max Holland champion Leroy Kaestner was also victorious, beating Hakim Ait Hma on points.
But William Diender had
to settle for a sixth defeat in a row as he was outscored by Golden Glory's David Kiria (pictured below) in the final
match of the marathon 26 fight night.
