STUART HALL has promised to knock out Jamie McDonnell if and when they fight
for the Doncaster man’s European bantamweight title.
Darlington’s unbeaten Hall became the boxer with the least amount of fights
(11 victories, one draw) to win a Lonsdale belt outright as he stopped John Donnelly in five one-sided rounds on April 9.
Arch rival McDonnell was an unimpressed ringside observer in Houghton-le-Spring, calling Hall’s
performance against the diminutive Liverpudlian in his third British title defence "pretty standard" and vowing
to "punish him" because he "makes mistakes".
Hall insists he would be the one doing the punishing however if the fight comes off, with McDonnell set for a
voluntary European defence in July after defending the Commonwealth title on May 28.
Hall said:
"I called McDonnell out on Sky Sports after the fight and said ‘let’s get it on’. He
was ringside and I was trying to look for him after the fight.
"I think I will chin him. He is good, give him credit, and would
give me good shots. He is a class act.
"But if I catch him I will knock him out - he boxes with his mouth open. I’ve stopped
my last four and I’m just starting to believe in myself a bit more.
"There is more to come. In the gym the combinations flow and it’s
obviously different in the ring. But it’s all experience - I’ve only had 12 fights."
Hall described winning the Lonsdale belt
outright as "like my world title" after flooring Donnelly three times on the way to his latest convincing win.
"It’s unbelievable and I’ve
got it for the rest of my life," said the 31-year-old, who has rededicated himself to boxing after admitting he
was "on the road to ruin" during a spell living on party island Ibiza.
"Once I started getting the uppercuts in I knew I was hurting him
and I can box better than that. Now let’s get the McDonnell fight on."
